Rub a little more soap into the toy as if you were giving it a good wash. Rinse out the soap then squeeze and gently wring out the water. Please note - your toy at this stage will look totally unrecognizable and unshapely! Rub the toy in between your hands as you do this the yarn matts together to give you the felty look you’re after - if the toy is still very damp do can this in between a towel. Continue with the rubbing/agitating and moulding until the toy is quite dry and quite felted and re-shape and mould for a final shaping - use the Shape Template to match with if you like, before placing on a radiator to dry completely.

I also glued in 8mm black eyes and then stitched blue mohair around and around the black eye to create the oval markings.

I felt like I’d just discovered some new yarn when I bought my first skein of this delightful stuff called ‘Suri’ ~ my first was from Koel and it was the colour that drew me in - but when I received it I felt it... Wow, so so soft, and when I unwound and knitted with it ~ DOUBLE WOW! ~ the dreamy softness of cashmere and the lustre of silk!
Wanting more/ to know and learn more I looked it up -
<span style="background-color: white; color: #3c4043; font-family: "roboto" , "helveticaneue" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">Suri is a type of alpaca and it’s characteristics are this: Suri alpacas<span style="background-color: white; color: #3c4043; font-family: "roboto" , "helveticaneue" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;"> appear angular and slender due to their long, lustrous fibers that hang down against their bodies creating a beautiful, lustrous yarn ~ At this point I have to add it is naturally at the more expensive scale as far as yarn price goes but then a little goes a long way - 2 kittens from one skein for example... and if you shop wisely, many Suri yarn sellers pelt their own alpacas 🦙 and dye their own yarn so it’s a friendlier way to get a little luxury into your knit:
<span style="background-color: white; color: #3c4043; font-family: "roboto" , "helveticaneue" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">Some favourites I’ve found on Etsy ~ with the addition that some sellers will wind the skeins into cakes for you ~ YESSS to that!!!
And when you get to the last row of the body - work this instead for hamster's tail:
It's a year since I've visited my blog - I don't know why because it's such a great platform to share content and images and links to free patterns - etc. etc.
It's also a lovely place for a chat and it's not as instant - here today, gone tomorrow - as Instagram.
So I'll be here too if you need a bit more convo than the daily murmurings on IG.
Here are the pattern links:
Hello - why is it that blogs (speaking for myself I'm ashamed to admit) get sooo neglected - I'm going to try and post once a week from now on (even written it in my diary)...
First up for this week (so far, so good!!) is to tell you about the auction I have for my one-off knitted Peter Rabbit: knitted in pure wool and alpaca yarn so it’s very pure and cuddly and very soft, he stands 30cms/ 12ins tall, stuffed with toy filling and is fitted with toy safety eyes although I would recommend that it is not suitable for a baby because of this.
The auction is open to everyone everywhere and you can place your bid in the comments section on my Instagram @dotpebbles_knits grid if you'd like to try and buy...
